Remember the old style local steak houses? This is one of the few remaining.
I remember going with my parents to the LJ steakhouse every year on their anniversary. It wasn’t that far from home, but it felt like a voyage going there. Everyone was dressed up inside and it felt special. The Wellington Grille has that same feel.
The entire ambiance and feel will make you happy you came here. This starts at the entrance and small bar. This is the perfect place to wait for your reservation.
The menu is not cheap, but the quality and care goes into every dish. A lot of dishes are seasonal, so the availability will vary. The appetizers include excellent crab cakes, maybe the best I’ve had outside of Hawaii and Key West.
Escargot is also on the menu and it was perfectly seasoned. Not too salty like many places. The meat was also tender and not rough.
The steak is what you come for though. And it is very good. We were here on Valentine’s Day and selected the Bone in Ribeye for 2. At $80 it was a good value since it was about 1 pound or more of fresh meat.
We greatly enjoyed the steak, but it was one level too rare for us. It would have been better to ask for medium well in order to get a medium or medium rare steak. But it was still excellent.
Overall, come here for steak. It’s local and it’s great. It’s also the same quality but about half the price a top chain, like Fleming’s, will end up costing you.
